Breathwork is a powerful practice that involves conscious, controlled breathing techniques. It's designed to help you release stress, clear emotional blockages, and connect with your inner self.

Breathwork involves various connected breathing techniques that can alter your state of consciousness, allowing you to access deeper parts of your mind and emotions.

 

By focusing on your breath, you can calm your nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and promote healing. This practice is especially beneficial for those dealing with trauma, repressed emotions, and limiting beliefs, as it facilitates the release of deeply held patterns and energies within the body.

Breathwork is a form of somatics meaning it works with the body - we use the conscious connected breath to place your mind into an altered state of consciousness so that your body can take the drivers seat and guide to where it needs healing.

I developed Emotion-Focused Therapeutic Breathwork as a unique approach that combines intentional breathing techniques with therapeutic principles to support deep emotional healing. This method bridges the gap between traditional breathwork and emotional processing, creating a safe and empowering space for transformative growth and self-connection.

 

Emotion-focused therapeutic breathwork is a trauma-informed practice that goes beyond relaxation or physical activation. It intentionally uses conscious, guided breathing techniques to access and process stored emotions, regulate the nervous system, and create space for deep emotional healing.

 

Unlike other styles of breathwork that may emphasize altered states of consciousness or solely physical benefits, this approach focuses on holding a safe, grounded space to gently explore the emotional body. It helps you reconnect with feelings that may have been suppressed or overwhelming, empowering you to process them in a way that promotes lasting inner transformation.

What to expect during your 1:1 session

In our 1:1 remote breathwork sessions, you'll experience a deeply transformative journey tailored to your needs. Each session is guided by the principles of tikanga Māori, ensuring a safe, culturally responsive, and supportive space for healing.

 

We our two hour session we begin with a grounding practice and intention setting, followed by a 60-minute breathwork journey where conscious breathing helps you release trauma, uncover emotions, and gain clarity whilst using emotion-focused techniques to guide deep subconscious healing.

As a trauma-informed facilitator, I create a safe and supportive space where you can process deep emotions at your own pace. The session includes energy healing and somatic techniques to support emotional release and restore balance.

 

We conclude the session with a reflective integration period to help you process your journey and gain insights, ensuring you leave feeling grounded and empowered.

Hey there! I'm Mel, the heart and soul behind SomaTherapeia & Healing with Mel.

 

I am a devoted mother, partner, and entrepreneur, who has a passion for holistic wellness.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Social Anthropology, and currently pursuing postgraduate studies in Counselling & Māori tikanga & rongoā, my academic journey guides me in advocating for natural approaches to trauma and mental health, rooted in personal experience.

My therapeutic approach is emotion focused and body based healing to create an integrative and holistic healing experience incorporating in multiple aspects of your well-being and life and to empower healing in all areas of your life.

SomaTherapeia is my vision for a healing space where natural and modern systems align to support others in their journey to overcome addiction and unresolved trauma, offering affordable resources and services.

I'm a fierce advocate for natural wellness, embodying a lifestyle centered on plant-based nutrition, mindfulness, and a balanced mind, body, and soul.

 

I aim to bridge the gap between mainstream therapy and natural healing modalities, advocating for their integration into holistic wellness practices.

As a mother navigating the complexities of raising three beautiful souls, my personal journey fuels my commitment to holistic living, resilience, and continual growth.

Welcome to my world

Who should NOT book a breathwork session

We want everyone to have a safe and positive experience with breahwork so there are a few conditions under which breathwork may not be suitable for you. If you are pregnant, we recommend that you skip the session, as breathwork can be quite intense. Additionally, those with certain medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, a history of heart attacks, high blood pressure, epilepsy or seizures, severe asthma, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, or a significant history of trauma should also avoid participating. If you’re on prescription blood thinners, it’s a good idea to consult your doctor first. It’s also important to note that participating in breathwork while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted. These substances can interfere with your ability to engage safely and may increase emotional or physical risks during the session. We advise not consume alcohol 24 -48 hours prior and drugs no sooner than 72 hours.
